Fasting: A Prayer Guide

Published November 11, 2025

Church,

One of our elders, Olushola Tanimola, has been faithfully leading our monthly prayer gatherings. He has put together the following prayer guide to help us seek God's will for this Facility Renewal Project. For those of you who are fasting and/or praying with us, you can use these Scriptures and prompts to direct your prayer time over these next few days.

2 Samuel 7:5 - “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord says: Are you the one to build me a house to dwell in?’”

This verse reflects God’s conversation with David about building a temple. It teaches that while David desired to build a house for God, the timing and the builder were chosen by God. This reminds us that building for God must be done according to His plan and timing, not our own desires. God directs who and how His work is accomplished.

Prayer point: Thank You, Lord, for choosing me to be part of this project. Help me to fulfill the purpose for which You have called me.

Exodus 25:8 - “Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them.”

This verse reveals God’s desire to dwell among His people in a sanctuary. It teaches that God wants to be present with His people and provides the design and instructions for building a place where His presence can be known. Building a house for God, whether literal or spiritual, must be done according to His will and with the purpose of hosting His presence.

Prayer point: As we prepare to renew Your place of worship at Richview, Lord, let Your presence remain with us and let this place continue to be a dwelling for Your glory.

Psalm 127:1“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.”

This verse reminds us that all efforts to build, whether literal or metaphorical, are fruitless without God’s involvement. It teaches that any endeavour, including building a home or establishing a life, must be rooted in reliance on God. When we seek His guidance and depend on His strength, our work is meaningful and enduring, but without Him, our efforts are in vain.

Prayer point: We invite You, Lord, to take full control of this project so that every effort we make will prosper and not be in vain.

Matthew 16:18 - “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”

In this verse, Jesus speaks of building His church on the foundation of faith. It teaches that Christ Himself is the cornerstone of the church, and His work will endure against any opposition. Just as a house needs a strong foundation, the church and by extension, our lives must be built on the unshakable truth of Jesus Christ.

Prayer point: We come against every negative force or power that seeks to oppose or disrupt Your will concerning this project. Let Your divine protection surround us.

1 Corinthians 3:9 - “For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.”

This verse teaches that believers are part of God’s spiritual building project. It highlights that we are both God’s workers and the structure He is building. As we labor in His service, we also grow into the spiritual house He is creating. God is the master builder, and we are privileged to participate in His divine work.

Prayer point: As we work on this project, Lord, strengthen us spiritually. Teach us to know You more deeply and to seek Your presence in all we do.

Proverbs 24:3“It takes wisdom to build a house, and understanding to set it on a firm foundation.”

Prayer point: Grant us wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, Lord, so that we may plan and execute this project with excellence and unity.

Prayer Point: Lord, give us a sense of Your presence and will as we meet on November 16th. May we have unity and clarity together, fostered by Your Spirit.
